• 1963: Although the Jeep Grand Wagoneer began production in 1984, the original version, known as the Full-Size Jeep or FSJ first hit the market in 1963 and continued production for a couple of decades while only receiving minor changes throughout its life.
• 1970: The Jeep FSJ was manufactured with luxury in mind, which was not common for the truck and SUV market of the time. Jeep was eventually purchased by AMC in 1970, and production of the vehicle transitioned to more resemble the Cherokee.
• The Late 70s: It wasn’t until the late 70s that the Wagoneer version of the Jeep became more luxurious and well-appointed with the addition of the Limited trim.
• The early 80s: In the early 1980s, the sales of the posh Limited model began to take off, and even more, luxurious features were added, including leather bucket seats and a revamped interior. However, once the financial crisis began in the eighties, the full-size Jeep was only offered in the Limited trim, steering entry-level buyers towards the Cherokee XJ. This is when the FSJ was rebranded as the Grand Wagoneer and was one of the most luxurious Jeep vehicles produced, with an abundance of modern features available.
• 1991: Sales of the Grand Wagoneer were steady, and by the time the vehicle was phased out in 1991 due to its low fuel economy, it was one of the most popular vehicles among those who made $200,000 or more annually.
